The single most annoying, exasperating thing about 3 touch is when a player is in possession, but out of touches, and has no choice but to stop and wait for someone to take the ball off him. That would solve your running and tackling problems. And while your at it get me some good referees. To all who would impose this coaching technique on our game I would like my proper football back please.
However 3 touch just doesn't do what proponents say it does so we are playing a very modified form of football for no good reason. If I'm any good at football it's my pass and move game that I think is my best skill. At my club I'm in a very small minority and I mostly just get shouted down. Better refereeing is the solution and keep 3 touch on the training ground where it belongs.Īlan thank you for considering my point of view. How does that work? Magnets, hypnotism? It could just as easily be argued that hurried, dangerous tackling is encouraged.ģ touch is a cop out, an easy option, a tinkering with the rules. If you want to reduce running and dangerous tackling just enforce the existing rules. So, because the player in possession can only touch the ball 3 times it stops the dangerous tackler from diving in. 3 touch isn't going to make the inconsiderate player suddenly mend their way.ĭangerous tackling is reduced it is claimed.
If you want to discriminate against the skilled ball holders that's fine but the skilled player is likely to be just as good at pass and move and can still easily exclude weaker players. It favours one type of player for another. Players still run to get into space or to intercept a pass or even run into hasty tackles.ģ touch does fundamentally change the way we play. Most running offences are 'off the ball' and limiting touches has absolutely no affect whatsoever on those who persistently break this rule. The claim that, when used in walking football, 3 touch works the other way round and slows everyone down is mystifying.
Those not in possession are encouraged to find space, to intercept or to tackle, quickly. It applies pressure to the player in possession to release the ball quickly. Limited touch football is a coaching technique designed to encourage pass and move play.
